Randi On Charters
United Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten explains here why she believes "charter schools are options worth exploring." It's very cautious, for obvious reasons this budget season, but give it a read. It would seem there is an opening here for the charter world that most other places in America don't have. (As dreadfully complicated as that opening might be.)
Meanwhile, the NY Post's Cindy Adams dishes here on the upcoming (April 28)
screening at the Tribeca Film Festival of the UFT's 35-minute documentary about its new elementary charter school in East New York. (Rumor is that the documentary was originally 37.5 minutes long, but that 2.5 minutes of footage were left on the cutting room floor because the producers felt there were dark connotations. OK, I made that up, but if someone STARTS that rumor it will be accurate, no?) Sen. Hillary Clinton will be there. Big party afterward in Stuyvesant High School.
