Stossel Publicity Machine
It's getting hard to believe the UFT and ABC's John Stossel aren't in cahoots somehow. This afternoon's teacher protest of ABC creates better publicity than the cheesily mustached Stossel could have ever hoped for. Read what Stossel has to say about it here. (In this piece, he explains what major award he was set to receive from an arm of the union before his controversial piece "Stupid in America" aired in January.)
I haven't seen the UFT's publicity machine roll out such a counterintuitive PR campaign since December 2004, when the union was absolutely outraged that NYC Chancellor Joel Klein had the gall to print a 61-page manual for principals that outlined, step-by-step, how to get rid of an incompetent teacher under the guidelines set forth in the city's contract with teachers. The UFT's response to this "disrespectful" manual? It printed up thousands of copies of the handy how-to guide and distributed them throughout the schools, and then posted it on the union's web site.
Can you imagine how far they would go to promote these things if they actually liked Stossel and Klein?
UPDATE: An alert reader notes that there is an easy answer to the question posed in the previous sentence. Two words: "Jonathan" and "Kozol."
