Extra Help or Racial Profiling?

We do a terrible job talking about race in this country, so we usually punt when it comes to dealing with uncomfortable issues. The NY Times story this morning about programs aimed at helping black boys in the suburbs is fascinating, and is the kind of thing we should be talking about more often and openly. So, we've got this awful achievement gap, what do we do about it?

PS: Kudos to the NY Times for scratching the most interesting side of the NCLB beast here. Isn't this story a whole lot more readable than another diatribe against testing?
