Testing Anxiety 2007

The New York Sun says people are freaking out more than ever about the testing season, which starts in earnest this week.

I did my own version of the freak-out last week. It was a combination of the test-prep and obnoxiously warm temperatures in NYC. My third grader has his reading test this week. So last week, while school temporarily converted to test-prep mode, I pulled him out of school for two days, brought him with me to a meeting I had in Chicago, and then headed north to Michigan's Upper Peninsula for a weekend of skiing on actual Lake Superior-effect snow. It's all about proficiency. Trying to get him from a Level 2 to a Level 3 on the slopes. (Don't worry, he still did his nightly reading.)

UPDATE: I perhaps should have gotten in one more day at the slopes. Seems my son's school was evacuated this morning due to the strange odor that overtook Manhattan. Where we were over the weekend, the only smells are the ones caused by Leinenkugels.
