CFE Crystal Ball

Gotham Gazette's annual installment of predictions for the coming year includes some thoughts from talking heads about the incoming Spitzer administration and the anticipated resolution of the Campaign for Fiscal Equity lawsuit. Daily News columnist Errol Louis is predicting a three-way fight between the Department of Ed, the United Federation of Teachers, and frustrated parents.

Reminder: No matter how much the state kicks in, parents (and in many cases teachers) will still be buying paper towels, crayons, copy paper, plastic baggies, toilet paper, etc. for their kids' classrooms. The same system that makes these types of items a budgetary afterthought will still be in place.

Also, NY Times columnist Sam Freedman predicts some skirmishes between NYC teachers and principals from the DOE's non-profit Leadership Academy.
