More WTC and Schools

Regarding yesterday's post, as more and more reporters unearth memos and reports from the weeks following the 9/11 attack(s) on Lower Manhattan, remember that there is a school angle and that the decisions made by those in charge at the time likely impacted the health of teachers and students in the schools around Ground Zero - particularly Stuyvesant High School.

There are reports this morning , for example, that Mayor Giuliani caved to pressure from business leaders to reopen parts of the area before anyone with a brain (including the mayor's own health department) thought it was wise.

Also, Gov. Pataki distanced himself yesterday from Mayor Bloomberg's statements suggesting there was no clear connection between Ground Zero workers who suddenly suffered lung ailments and the toxic cocktails they were breathing, saying, "It just makes common sense that when you know how thick and horrible the fumes and the dust and the ash were in lower Manhattan that people who worked there hundreds of hours are going to have respiratory problems."

What do the memos between City Hall and 110 Livingston St. say?

Note: No, Mayor Bloomberg is not an idiot, nor does he probably believe what he is saying. Like the class size case below, he and his people sometimes are forced to make asinine comments in order to win in the courtroom, not the real world.
