Teacher Militancy Lives!

Teachers in the Niagara-Wheatfield School District are taking a strong stand for social justice. They are so worked up they have filed their first labor grievance in a decade, collectively putting their feet down to do what is right. The important civil rights issue: whether spring break should continue to be two straight weeks, or broken up to have one week off during the winter, and one week off in spring.

I'm not making this up. The school board offered a memorandum of understanding that included additional days off over the next two years for teachers if they accepted the offer, but the union, in a sign of solidarity, rejected it.
