"Wall To Wall" Union Organizing in Cali.

Today's L.A. Times notes that a change in policy at the California Teachers Association will "facilitate wall-to-wall charter school organizing," according to a union letter to members. Basically, the union is opening up its regular membership to school secretaries, bus drivers and other non-teaching school staff. The idea is that with a wider net, it will be easier for the CTA to inch in on charter schools.

It will be interesting to see how the union implements this. Right now, one of the biggest obstacles the union has faced in trying to win over the hearts and minds of charter school teachers is that the teachers aren't exactly thrilled with the idea of paying dues to an organization that is simultaneously trying to put them out of a job.
