"Mistakes Were Made"
EIA's Mike Antonucci is on top of NYSUT's recent mea culpa in Retirement-Gate. Read the letter from NYSUT boss Dick Ianuzzi to the state's dues-paying teachers apologizing for ripping them off, but also note that he sells his predecessors up the river by noting that the ripping-off of the state's teachers started before his watch. (In case you forgot, the state union was accused of taking kickbacks from ING in exchange for steering unsuspecting rank-and-filers into really poor performing investments. It was a win for the union and a win for ING, but teachers pissed their earnings away.)
Also note that the teachers union is paying Spitzer $100,000 to cover the costs of its investigation.
How awkward for Spitzer, who is about this close to winning the governor's race right now. Sounds, however, like this mess was handled well by both the investigators and the perps.
