Dueling Charter Ads
Charter school folks aren't the only ones running ads in the final days of the legislative session. Capitol Confidential reports that a group called New Yorkers for Fiscal Fairness is running ads supporting Assemblyman Ronald Canestrari (D-Cahoes) for his stance opposing the creation of new public charter schools.
Rick Karlin notes: If nothing else, the dueling advertisements illustrate that Gov. George Pataki’s push to increase the statewide cap of 100 charter schools is still a salient issue, and it shows that advocates on both sides of the issue are reasonably well funded.
UPDATE: The Niagara Gazette reports that the group Parents for Public Charter Schools is now running ads against Assemblywoman Francine DelMonte for her stance against charter schools. This is the third legislator to feel the group's pain. DelMonte says in the article she is not opposed to charter schools, she just opposes paying for them.
