Does NCLB Cause Head Lice?

The Quick and the Ed found this story in today's Wall Street Journal before I could even open up the paper - that's how freaking quick they are! Essentially, the claim is that NCLB creates so much pressure to improve academic achievement (and requires good attendance on testing days) that schools are ignoring their long-established lice policies and keeping kids with itchy scalps in their classroom. Good grief.

On a side note: Does you scalp itch every time you even hear the word "lice"?? I remember going through the regular lice checks in elementary school and the psychosomatic itch was unbearable. It still happens to me every time my kids bring home the "lice letter" from school, informing us each time someone in their class is found to have lice.
