Thanks, New Covenant
Every other charter school in the state seems to be able to get its annual audits submitted in time. But New Covenant has been late in four of the last five years. In 2004, state officials renewed the school's charter for five years on condition that audits be filed no later than Dec. 1, which is a month after the legal deadline. New Covenant filed its audit Dec. 23.
SUNY seems like it is intent on placing the school on probation.
Mind you, the late audits haven't uncovered anything scandalous, other than some cash flow issues related to declining enrollment.
But The Chalkboard believes that parents at New Covenant shouldn't wait around for SUNY to do its job. They should try to accelerate that whole "declining enrollment" thing on their own. Run! Run! Run! Seriously, get the hell out of there. Power to the people.
Times Union story on all this is here.
