Stossel Uninvited To UFT HQ Event
Regarding posts here, here, and here, The Chalkboard is hearing that the UFT may have figured out what ABC's John Stossel was talking about when he said he had been invited by the union to speak at a February conference to educators. Some union officials believe he actually confused a different invitation to speak: one from the Greater Metropolitan Social Studies Conference. The conference, which includes in its membership a UFT-affiliated group called the Association of Teachers of Social Studies in NYC, has now formally "uninvited" Stossel from its annual conference.
But it may be easy to understand why Stossel was confused as to the sponsor of the conference. The conference, scheduled for Feb. 11, will be held at the UFT headquarters at 52 Broadway, in Manhattan. See here.
The union, along with teachers unions all over the country, is not exactly feeling the love for Stossel these days. Read back in the previous posts linked above to see why.
UPDATE: Read the letter sent out of UFT HQ to Stossel telling him he's persona non grata at the event here.
