No More Good News For Public Ed?
Remember the group "PS 21" or "Public Schools for The 21st Century"????
Promoted with a flourish in 2004 by NYSUT big wigs and union allies, the idea was to accentuate the positive things that happen in public schools. NYSUT First VP Antonia Cortese called the PS 21 coalition "a breath of fresh air" and the union sent out 100,000 fundraising letters for the effort. Former union boss Tom Hobart wrote at the time: "Please support PS 21 and its mission in New York State - I do."
Make that did.
Looks like there was trouble in 21st Century happy land. Visitors to the coalition's web site are now greeted with the following message: "Public Schools for the 21st Century has been disbanded. Thanks for your interest in public education."
The Chalkboard isn't going there.
