DataSync

The Data Synchronization Wizard may be remotely installed to link applications within a school along with EVI web-based solutions to reduce or eliminate data duplication and errors. The tool also “scrubs” data elements to provide consistency, continuity, and adherence to NY State reporting requirements. EVI’s experience with over 150 New York school districts has given us the ability to “pull” and/or “push” data from and to almost any application. This product also lays the groundwork for any Zone Integration Server (ZIS) process. A charter school-based Data Warehouse is possible utilizing this product.

Violent and Disruptive Incident Reporting System

Each building must submit their Violent and Disruptive Incident Report (VADIR) to the state for each school year ending June 30th. The collection, organization, categorizing, and verification of this important information are both time-consuming and fraught with potential errors that could damage the reputation of a school through future identification. Educational Vistas, Inc. spent over five years developing and refining its Violent and Disruptive Incident Reporting System (VADIRS) to be the most powerful, yet economical solution for any charter school to afford. Most importantly, schools are able to examine the status of their VADIR report at any time in the year. In addition, the report status of any incident (i.e., reportable or non-reportable) may be changed as more information becomes available. Also, VADIRS creates the actual summary report, data-export file for potential transmission to the SED, and many internal building/district level reports. VADIRS is kept up-to-date and in compliance, regardless of SED changes. VADIRS is the most comprehensive, efficient, and integrated software program to house and manage this data. This product links to any student information system to create a complete district behavioral-management tool, including the availability of our new Discipline Option to house and track all minor offenses. Beyond assisting you to meet the mandate, VADIRS data collection and reporting capability provide administrators with the power to review any incident data at any time from any school year. A significant benefit of VADIRS is the examination of each incident with the embedded student demographic and program data to improve the culture and safety within the buildings/district through the analysis of reports displaying critical information by report category, date, time, building, location, teacher, gender, ethnicity, and student(s). All SED examples, templates, PowerPoint shows, glossaries, forms, instructions, and other related materials are easily accessed from the VADIRS login welcome screen. VADIRS also contains a complete Discipline Module that may be customized by the school to meet their particular needs. All parental correspondence is printed and housed within the system to facilitate easy notification and convenient record keeping. By linking directly or indirectly to any student information system (SIS), VADIRS is always up-to-date with student enrollment, demographic, and program information.

On September 13, 2010 the Dignity for All Students Act (Chapter 482 of the Laws of 2010), was signed into law by Governor David A. Paterson. The goal of the law is to provide public school students with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, and harassment (e.g., bullying) on school property, on a school bus, or at a school function. DASA underscores the importance of a comprehensive State and local approach to creating safe, supportive, and engaging learning spaces. Moreover, the law was enacted in response to the large number of students who skip school and engage in high-risk behaviors, such as alcohol use and even suicide due to an atmosphere of real or perceived harassment and discrimination.

As the provider of the most comprehensive and powerful program for meeting and exceeding the VADIR mandate, we at EVI understand not only the reasoning behind this new law, but also the impact it will have on how districts handle student behavior, discipline, and the “Code of Conduct”. All districts/schools must be in compliance with this new law by July 1, 2012. The State Education Department will promulgate new regulations, create new procedures, and the commissioner will direct the implementation of this legislation.

EVI has just built all of the component-areas into VADIRS to support this upcoming requirement. The DASA drop-down menu tab provides access to those areas that are specifically identified within the law such as: Policies, Human Relations, Promotion, Services, Professional Development, Curriculum & Instruction, and school Climate Surveys. Each category has sub-headers that allow schools to upload materials to implement all aspects of the mandate. Furthermore, as the commissioner and the SED provide compliance guidelines, implementation instructions, and additional resources, EVI will quickly make them available to all VADIRS users. The reasoning behind the Dignity for All Students Act is Just and right. We support this enhancement to the VADIR process and will continue to provide schools & districts with the best application to both meet the mandate and use the data to improve the culture of learning within the buildings. NYS Scoring

Introduction
EVI has scored NYS tests and reported results since the advent of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation in 2001. During this period it has markedly expanded its scorer base, experience, and expertise. Today there are hundreds of certified teachers working for EVI who provide this service. It is interesting to note that their mean educational experience is greater than 20 years, and the aggregated experience exceeds half a century. Also, EVI scorers have unique experiences beyond that of the classroom which includes: administrators, college professors, and authors. All of the scorers, of course, meet NYS criteria for the purpose of assisting schools in the scoring of mandated assessments.
Benefit: Time, Cost, and Equity
With the advent of testing in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and mathematics, grades 4 and 8 in science, and grades 5 and 8 in social studies, a tremendous amount of instructional time is lost, not to mention the costs for substitute teachers. Therefore, the EVI scoring option makes sense when it preserves learning and is cost effective. Also, the leadership in many charter schools have come to the conclusion that having the scoring completed by a disinterested, third party with no prior expectations reinforces the concern for equity. The need for schools to feel that they are being treated in a fair and honest manner is absolutely essential. And, this concern for fairness resides at the heart of EVI’s practices.
Benefit: Intervention, Curriculum Refinement, and Staff Development
Aside from scoring the assessments, EVI provides an array of reports that inform the decision-making process as it impacts staffing and resource distribution. Such timely reports, coming within weeks, not months, serve to bring about timely, targeted intervention and continuous improvement. In addition, the reports influence both curriculum development and refinement. The data may also help focus staff development needs in a grade, school, or district.
Benefit: Curriculum Alignment and Accountability
The reports provide a link to the NYS learning standards and related performance indicators (PIs) through the coding of each test item within the summary reports for each subject and grade tested. This report feature supports the challenge of curriculum alignment. If school districts are to improve student performance continuously, they need to have access to timely data. And, the EVI report formats support this need in that they are easy to read and apply the information gleaned for improved performance. In addition, EVI is always willing to provide schools with unique reports that place valuable student performance data into the hands of all those who have a stake in the continuous growth of students. Such report data may follow the student throughout their academic career.

Academic Intervention Management System

AIMS software is designed to provide each school and/or district with a system to manage and monitor the implementation of Commissioner’s Regulations requiring academic intervention services (AIS) to supplement the instruction in the general curriculum and assist students in meeting State learning standards. This software solution provides a central database containing all required AIS/RTI elements, as well as the regulations and guidelines, NYS learning standards, and Core Curriculum. A student AIS record is created, maintained, and archived across the student’s educational career. Beyond the student’s AIS record, AIMS includes descriptions of district criteria for determining AIS/RTI eligibility and/or diagnosis with levels of intensity, descriptions of all instructional academic interventions, instructional strategies, parental interventions, and support services. In addition, AIMS produces a printed copy of the student’s AIS/RTI record, parent letter of notification with request for parent insights and feedback, progress and quarterly reports of student performance, and notification of AIS/RTI termination. All correspondences such as student quarterly progress reports may be batch printed. A standard report generator provides numerous reports from the rich AIS/RTI database, including a quarterly analysis of the effectiveness of each academic intervention and support service. A key feature provides for the importing of assessment data (State, local, etc.), and a performance profile of each student in the district. An annual and/or biennial review/revision process of the AIS/RTI plan is included. The AIMS software solution provides a comprehensive system to address compliance and control of Commissioner’s AIS/RTI Regulations and guidelines.
